A lovely instacanvas

17 August 2012

Forget all about blogs, twitter and facebook, these days it is all about the Instagram craze and we are all infected by the virus.

I check my Instagram every 5 seconds and love every second of it. As you might recall, I too have an Instagram profile with which I try to reflect my world. My friend Fezan (who also takes my outfit posts for me) has a great Instacanvas account that I just must share with you. The above and below are my favorite but go ahead and have your own favorite!

2012 Olympics Closing Ceremony

13 August 2012

Everyone locked-in to the Closing Ceremony of the 2012 London Olympics last night. My main aim was to see the Spice Girls after such a long time. They were my favorite group growing up and my friends and I used to play dress-up all the time to their music and videos. The Closing Ceremony was lovely in so many ways. I literally had goosebumps during Imagine. Then there were the British Supermodels who were magnificent (but that was not the best part for me I was waiting anxiously for the Spice Girls). My thought: the b*hes brought it even though they are much older than they used to be. Perfect show.

I'm really bored with summer and I want the fall to arrive (I hope to wear boots, coats and everything that goes). But this shoot still managed to get my attention.

A f. expensive sweater

via netaporter

I have been drooling over this knit since I first saw it on the runway. Our socialites of course wore it all around town but somehow it did not make me hate it. I was actually planning on buying it. Considering paying a good I don't know, €400 to €500 for it (Inside voice says you're an idiot thinking a Burberry Prorsum sweater could be as cheap as €500). So, turns out it is currently sold at a thousand Euros (yes €1.000). While my credit card is having a happy day knowing that it is currently safe, I made a small research. If I am really keen on spending a €1,000 one-off for a single item, what could it be (admittedly, we all do spend a thousand Euros for our lovely designer brands (sometimes even more))? I am a shoe and a bag girl (an awful thing to say, I mean I like shoes and bags). Turns out, I can buy these bags and even these shoes. I am considering buying these boots though (yes I know they are more expensive but that is another post!). Tell me would you pay that much on this sweater?

I mean, who in their right mind can resist a metallic bag, a clutch with pop-art on it (seriously) and the greatest leather pencil skirt out there? Nobody. No-frikin'-body.

Kimse. Hiç kimse.)

Bag (Çanta): 655€
Clutch (El çantası): 350€
Skirt (Etek): 650€

Nicholas Kirkwood - Midnight in Paris

03 August 2012

While checking my favorite blog Man Repeller (who I presume is on top of your list as well) I came across the Browns website. And thanks to Browns, I got to see what I had missed, the Midnight in Paris Collection of Nicholas Kirkwood. And God what a beauty I have missed! Every single piece is magnificent and I want each pair. The below are my current faves but who knows what I might end up buying (if anything). If you want to know more about the collection, click-y for Fabsugar's interview with the man himself. And while you're on Browns site, don't close the tab without checking out the Moo sunglasses they are awesome! As the British would say "Fabulous" (no exclamation point).

A late review of the Dior Couture show

20 July 2012

When a designer you adore is publicly disgraced and forced to leave a fashion house, you are perplexed. I have been trying to hate him for what he did - not just for having those horrible thoughts but also for ruining a career. His work was so special for me, even so that I had pictures of Dior and him all over my walls. When I was in high school and was still dreaming to have a career in fashion, my ultimate dream was to work for him. But first my dream of becoming a part of the fashion  industry faded and along with my dream his career went poo-poo as well. I presume my readers are now bored to hell with my posts about him but I just can't get over it.

I know it's probably too late to be posting on Dior Couture show which was Raf Simons' debut chez Dior but I felt I had to. At first I thought I could do without writing about it, I even looked at the collection to try and get used to it. But I feel the urge to write and then I shall.

Well, my initial thought is: he is going back to Dior roots. Which is good in a way. Christian Dior is the God that created the fashion house so why should he not? But me, being a Galliano adorer-lover was expecting perhaps too much of Raf (something I never ever expected of Bill Gayten). And of course, I was disappointed. Not disappointed as in "the collection was bad" but as in "I expected more of him".

For me, the humble fashion blogger-wannabe the lawyer -trying to get ahead in her career, haute couture is art. We are shoved with normal collections twice, sometimes four times a year and we expect some art and some ka-boom from the haute couture shows. And Galliano delivered. Be it the crazy make-ups or the work we could see he put into the garments, we saw pure art. I did not see that in this collection.

Currently, as his face is facing the threat to be erased from the face of the fashion world (enter savior Anna Wintour), we are praying for John's (except those who still haven't forgiven him) career and his return. He might never return to Dior as those bridges were burnt long time ago, but I want to see more of his genius, at least that i what we deserve.
